Peruvian Mirror Frames
CUZQUENIAN STYLE is made in the Cuzco region of Peru. It consists of a hand carved wooden frame covered by several coats of plaster or stucco and then several layers of gold leaf until the whole wooden surface is covered. This makes the frame look as if it had been made of gold and not of wood. Small mirrors are sometimes inserted into the wood.
ANDAHUAYLINO STYLE is also referred to as "Reverse Glass" painting. Various themes are painted on the underside of glass in reverse order. The completed image is then viewed through the glass, giving an impression of debth. The most popular are Andean landscapes, butterflies, flowers, and birds painted in the style known as "Colonial".
